Text Scam

It happened one morning when I received a text from what appeared to be my bank. The message read: “ALERT: Your account has been suspended due to suspicious activity. Please click the link below to verify your identity and restore access.” Panic set in. What if my account was compromised? The urgency in the message was enough to make anyone nervous.

But something didn’t feel right. The link looked suspiciously short, and I hadn’t been expecting any alerts. I decided to do some quick research, and sure enough, I found that it was a phishing scam designed to steal personal information.

Here’s how the scam worked: The fraudsters impersonated my bank, creating a sense of urgency and tricking me into clicking a fake link. Once clicked, they’d ask for sensitive information like passwords or account details, which could then be used to steal money or commit fraud.

So, how can you avoid falling for these scams?

  1. Don’t trust unsolicited messages—always verify through official channels.

  2. Look for red flags—generic greetings, poor grammar, or a sense of urgency are telltale signs.

  3. Go directly to the website—never click on links in unexpected texts or emails.

  4. Enable two-factor authentication—an extra layer of security makes your accounts safer.

Stay vigilant—scammers are getting smarter, but so can you!
