To optimize my resume, I used prompts that asked the AI to tailor my experience toward specific industries, rewrite bullet points to sound more professional, and highlight the skills that employers value most. Examples of the prompts I used included: “Rewrite my resume for a business/operations job,” “Make a second version geared toward outdoor labor and event setup,” and “Strengthen my bullet points to show leadership, responsibility, and measurable impact.” I also asked the AI to refine wording, improve clarity, and adjust tone depending on the target role.
Compared to my original resume, the AI-generated versions use stronger action verbs, more quantified results, and clearer descriptions of what I accomplished. The structure is cleaner, the bullet points are more targeted, and each version emphasizes different strengths depending on the industry—business skills in one, physical labor and safety in the other.
Through this process, I learned how powerful prompt engineering can be. Being specific with instructions produces better results, and tailoring content for different audiences helps highlight the most relevant parts of my experience. The same job history can tell different stories depending on how it’s framed.
